When PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and DCSs (Distributed Control Systems) become obsolete, a control system "Rip & Replace" project involves removing the old backplate with hardware and installing a new one. Typically, end devices and associated wiring can remain in place. In addition to having to search eBay for hard-to-find replacement parts, another concern is sub-par cybersecurity with older systems. Many operators choose to spend money on modernization along the way instead of waiting for complete failure, which ultimately saves in the long run.

Lastly, clean orderly panels are also much safer (and less stressfull) to work on if ever needed.
